Galliford Try Signs Contract Worth £435m with Highways England

Highways England has awarded two contracts worth £435m to Galliford Try to upgrade two key highways. Galliford has been contracted by Highways England to upgrade the A47 corridor around Peterborough and Norwich for which the construction company will receive £300m. The construction business has also won a contract valued at £135m for upgrading the A303’s single carriageway section between Sparkford and Ilchester in Somerset.

Highways England in November 2018 awarded contracts worth £8.7bn to 13 contractors under the novel ‘routes to market regional delivery partnership’ programme. The A47 refurbishment project involves upgrading three sections stretching from western Peterborough to Greater Yarmouth to dual carriageway and junction. The construction work for improving the A303 Sparkford to Ilchester section is scheduled to start in March 2020.

The A303 contract entails upgrading the three-mile-long single carriageway to a dual motorway with grade separation.

Ogilvie Begins £30m Housing Scheme in Aberdeen

Ogilvie Construction has begun working on a housing project worth £30m for Aberdeen City Council. The construction firm will build a total of 283 flats for the housing society in Wellheads Road in Dyce.

Four 5-storey apartment blocks will be constructed where every building will have four-, three-, two-, and single-bedroom flats. The ergonomic design and positioning of the buildings leave sufficient space for open-air lawns with twin playgrounds for children and seating.

The best quality of eco-friendly materials will be used for constructing the housing blocks.

Ground Broken in £10.4m North Lanarkshire Council Housing Scheme

A delegate from CCG (Scotland) teamed up with councillors for the ceremonial ground-breaking of the proposed £10.4m council housing project in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire.

The ground-breaking ceremony was held at the site of the erstwhile St. James Primary School. CCG will construct 58 homes at Lismore Drive for locals comprising wheelchair-friendly cottages, two-bedroom cottages, single-and two-bedroom cottage-style flats, four-, three-, and two-bedroom houses.

The homes will be built using high-quality materials and will be very energy-efficient, enabling residents to save upfront on general expenses.

Castlehouse Begins £17m Northallerton Prison Redevelopment

Castlehouse Construction has started work on the first stage of the £17m Treadmills redevelopment scheme. Wykeland, a Hull-based property developer joined forces with the Hambleton District Council to form a joint venture-CNDCL (Central Northallerton Development Company Ltd). Castlehouse Construction, based in Yorkshire, has been awarded the contract for delivering the initial phase of redevelopment entailing the creation of a car park and retail units.

Northallerton Prison, which operated for over 230 years but closed down in 2013 will be redeveloped to house an Iceland and Lidl and parking for about 130 vehicles.

Construction Started on £6m Redditch Primary School

J Tomlison has won the contract for constructing a £6m nursery and primary school in Redditch, Worcestershire.

The new building will provide a contemporary learning space for pupils and teachers. Part of the Brockhill East development, which will consist of 960 homes being built, the school is expected to be completed in December 2020.
