Wakefield Council Hand £17m Leisure Centre contract to Willmott Dixon

Willmott Dixon recently completed the Minsthorpe Leisure Centre for Wakefield Council. In fact, the contractor has built over £200m-worth of leisure properties in Winchester, Elmbridge, Littlehampton, Romford and at the University of Warwick.

Pontefract Parks’ Five Towns Leisure and Wellbeing Hub would be the biggest of its kind in Wakefield. Indoor facilities include a 10-lane pool, a learner’s pool and a studio pool. Exercise studios, a gym and meeting rooms are some other facilities. Outdoor facilities include an artificial grass pitch and 4 tennis courts.

The construction work is expected to complete in late 2020.

Ground Broken at Nottingham Trent University for New £9m Enterprise Innovation Centre

The University has been supporting start-ups, helping local businesses and commercialising research as part of its enterprise activities. The Enterprise Innovation Centre would become the hub of all such activities.

The 4-storey building would be linked to the existing Dryden Centre. The work is scheduled to be completed in 2020 and the centre is expected to open in late 2020. After construction, the building will become the new hub for the Hive, which is currently based out of NTU’s Maudslay building.

Construction Begins on £13m Primary School in Edinburgh

Broomhills Primary School is one of three major developments in Edinburgh. Development in Broomhills areas has resulted in a rise in the population in the city’s south east, which is putting pressure on the existing catchment areas of several other primary schools.

The new primary school will have a capacity of 420 children. Moreover, the project even includes a specialist early years centre for 80 nursery places.

The 4,000sqm school will have 14 classrooms, spread over two storeys and 4 general-purpose rooms as well as a large outdoor play area and a sports pitch.

Construction Starts on Scottish Innovation District

Renfrewshire Council has partnered with Scottish Enterprise and the Scottish government to construct this innovation district near Glasgow Airport in Renfrewshire.

The construction work has now kicked off and will see the development of essential infrastructure including new bridges, roads, pedestrian walkways and cycling routes, funded through the £1.13bn Glasgow City Region City Deal that’s jointly funded by Scottish and UK governments.

A 52-hectare campus in the centre of the district will host companies leveraging new technologies and engaged in cutting-edge research.

The Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland (AMIDS) will put Scotland at the forefront of advanced manufacturing.

VolkerFitzpatrick Wins £75m Runway Resurfacing Contract at RAF Lossiemouth

The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) has approved the resurfacing of runways at RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland and has awarded the contract to VokerFitzpatrick.

The work is part of the preparation work to welcome nine P9A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft. The first of these aircraft will arrive in 2020. The P-8A is a slightly larger aircraft compared to the Typhoons that usually operated from Lossiemouth.

The resurfacing work is part of several improvements that are being planned at the base alongside the construction of a new air traffic control tower, staff accommodation and upgrades to the electrical and drainage supplies.
