The Glass Works Development Project of Barnsley Council Enters Phase Two

A regeneration project with an estimated budget of £180m, The Glass Works was launched in 2016. The project aims to convert a 3.8-hectare site surrounding Barnsley’s Cheapside into a retail and leisure centre.

The project has entered phase 2 of development – contracts to that effect have been signed by the Barnsley Council and Henry Boot Construction.

Phase 1 of the project, also helmed by Henry Boot Construction, involved the construction of a new library and a complete make-over of Barnsley Markets.

Phase 2 will involve the construction of 100,000 sq. ft. of retail space and 25,000 sq. ft. of leisure space including restaurants and cafes. The leisure and retail space will be set amidst a landscaped public square.

The expected time of completion of Phase 2 is June 2021.

RBGE Set for a Major Upgrade

The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) has received planning permission from councillors for its Biomes project, which aims to safeguard the garden’s collection of more than 34,000 plants.

A new glasshouse, education facilities, and an energy centre aimed at reducing carbon emissions from the garden are all part of the plan. The project is expected to be completed in multiple stages over 7 years.

Milburngate Scheme Construction Work Begins in Durham

A £120m regeneration project aimed at reviving Durham’s riverside, the Milburngate Scheme gains momentum with Tolent formally starting the construction work.

The 6-acre site allotted for the project will have restaurants, cinema and a hotel. A new frontage is also on the cards, which will be constructed facing the riverside.

Construction Company for Sunderland Manufacturing Park Finalised

GMI Construction will undertake the construction of £12m International Manufacturing Park (IAMP) project in Sunderland. The first phase of the IAMP will involve the construction of advanced industrial and manufacturing space over an area of 1.6m sq. ft. The Park aims to facilitate innovation and knowledge transfer among manufacturers.

Construction of Grainger’s PRS Tower Begins in Leeds

Tolent Construction has started work on a £34m Private Rented Space (PRS) project – Fabrik in Leeds. The PRS will be a 12-storey tower with 216 rental homes. Leeds-based Oakapple Group is the delivery partner for this project.

Construction of Glasgow Apartments Begins

Named G3 Square scheme, the Glasgow Apartment construction will involve the development of 100 apartments in the city’s West End.

G3 Square will be a 6-storey development constructed amidst landscaped surroundings with modern sustainable construction materials. Work on G3 Square is expected to be completed in 2020.
