Metnor Construction Ltd, a reputed construction company based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, has started building a leisure centre in Sheringham, Norfolk. Saunders Boston Architect headquartered in Cambridge, created the blueprint for the Sheringham Leisure Centre valued at £12.6m. The leisure centre will be built on the site of Splash swimming baths, constructed in the 1980s.

The employees of Metnor Construction joined hands with North Norfolk District Councillors and staff from Saunders Boston, REAL Consulting, and Everyone Active for breaking ground at the site. Metnor is expected to complete the project by the summer of 2021. The brand-new leisure hub will feature a cafe, spin studio, multi-use studios, community halls, a fitness suite, an adaptable depth floor, a 13-metre learner pool, and a 25-metre, six-lane pool.

A total of 11 car parking spaces will also be built near the structure’s entrance. The contractor will build elevators for quick access to all the storeys and also construct dedicated changing rooms and automated entry doors in the foyer.

In order to assess the conditions throughout the route, site and ground inspection have been conducted. The project team entrusted with completing the extension of the tramline from Edinburgh to Newhaven, joined forces with the swept path contractor, Morrison Utility Services and SFN JV (infrastructure & systems contractor) to finalise the plans. The construction work for the £207.3m project will lead to Leith Walk becoming a one-lane of traffic for about 18 months.

Construction is expected to be completed by April of 2023, following which approximately 16 million passengers will use the extended route.
