Make the Clean Choice at Yanmar - The Home of the Clean Machine

Stage V Compliant Engine

Yanmar has again been at the forefront of compact diesel engine innovation by creating sustainable and powerful engines to tackle today’s environmental challenges. Without compromising on power or speed, Yanmar created their TNV-CR series of industrial diesel engines which are compliant with the Stage V EU laws that were set out in 2019. From their founding in Japan back in 1912, Yanmar have maintained their vision in creating a sustainable future for engine innovation and manufacture.

The UN has warned that we have just twelve years to limit global warming if we want to prevent the growing risk of extreme natural disasters. The Government has passed the law to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The construction industry has been highlighted as having a large part of play in the total carbon footprint of the UK. According to the UK Green Building Council, around 10% of the country’s carbon dioxide emissions are directly associated with construction activities. The number rises to 45% when taking into account the whole of the built environment sector

All industries need to ensure that they are future proofing their business and aligning with environmentally friendly principles, without compromising on power and efficiency. The cleanest choice currently in the plant machinery world is to invest in engines that are compliant with Stage V EU laws. Yanmar is leading the way in the manufacture of such engines. For example, when comparing the NOx and HC emissions from a Stage I Yanmar engine created in 1999 at 10.5 to the Stage V Yanmar engine created in 2019 at 0.59, it is clear to see the improvement and work that Yanmar have invested in creating greener, cleaner engines.

The newly developed Stage V engine creates an even higher power density whilst complying with strict emission regulations. The new engine is compact allowing it to easily be fitted to the machine, has lower fuel consumption and lower noise output.

Main advantages:

(1) High Power Density

To increase power output, a new turbocharger matching design has been implemented, along with higher strength in various engine parts. As a result, 3TN86CHT and 4TN86CHT have 20% and 14% more power output, respectively, than TNV models of the same displacement with intercooled turbo in the current line-up.

(2) Compact Engine Configuration

The compact outline of the engine was designed in consideration of engine bay dimensions, making it easier for customers to install it on their work equipment. In addition, increasing the output of the exhaust gas after-treatment system without making it larger contributes to improved operator’s visibility and comfort.

(3) Proprietary Exhaust Gas After-Treatment System to Offer you Seamless Working in the Field

The new engine is equipped with our proprietary DPF system for capturing PM. This system, which has been well received in the market, keeps you working at high altitudes and at low temperatures, and under all work conditions, from light to heavy loads. In addition, the DPF cleaning service has a long interval of 6,000 hours.
