Nuisance tree stumps are a problem for many golf courses. To keep the course looking and playing at its best trees often have to be felled in order to let light onto fairways / greens helping the grass stay healthy and perfect for golf. This is a fairly routine task and will often be carried out by the clubs greenkeepers or occasionally by dedicated forestry contractors. However, once the trees are down the club is left with the problem of stumps, which are not only unsightly but are often a hazard. Especially when concealed by longer grass, such as that which would be found in a golf course rough.
Removing these stumps is often not quite as simple as cutting down the tree, routes can sprawl out for meters underground so excavating the ground and digging up the stump is often not practical, especially for a golf club. This is where the Bobcat Tree Stump Grinder comes into its own. This impressive piece of kit can mill whole stumps up to 280mm above the ground, and is capable of reducing them down to 280mm below the surface. Which is certainly easier than excavating a section of your course to remove the stump as Close House Golf Club recent found out.
Close House is without doubt one of the finest golf clubs in the North East, and features two stunning 18 hole courses, and non-other than Lee Westwood as there attached tour professional. The Newcastle based club is no stranger to Bobcat equipment having worked with Bobcat dealers and hire providers MTS Plant for many years. In that time they have hired a range of Bobcat equipment including mini exactors and compact loader from MTS Plant’s Co. Durham branch in Chester-Le-Street, and have recently tried out there new Bobcat Stump Grinder for the first time. The machine which was hired alongside a S550 skidsteer loader was ideal for the task at hand, and was able to remove a number of stumps from around the grounds in a matter of hours. Leaving behind just a light scatter of wood chippings.
At MTS we have been luck enough to have enjoyed a good working relationship with Close House Golf Club for many years now, and are there official Club Car golf buggy suppliers thorough our MTS Golf & Utility Vehicles business.
For more information on the Bobcat Tree Stump Grinder, or how it can be hired please contact your local MTS Plant Branch including Yorkshire, Lanchashire, Lanarkshire, and County Durham.
