Nuisance tree stumps are a problem for many golf courses. To keep the course looking and playing at its best trees often have to be felled in order to let light onto fairways / greens helping the grass stay healthy and perfect for golf. This is a fairly routine task and will often be carried out by the clubs greenkeepers or occasionally by dedicated forestry contractors. However, once the trees are down the club is left with the problem of stumps, which are not only unsightly but are often a hazard. Especially when concealed by longer grass, such as that which would be found in a golf course rough.

Removing these stumps is often not quite as simple as cutting down the tree, routes can sprawl out for meters underground so excavating the ground and digging up the stump is often not practical, especially for a golf club. The machine which was hired alongside a S550 skidsteer loader was ideal for the task at hand, and was able to remove a number of stumps from around the grounds in a matter of hours. Leaving behind just a light scatter of wood chippings.
